Endorse Judge Rands

Since January 2023, I have had the honor of serving as your District Court Judge. During that time, I have worked every day to ensure that the courtroom is a place where people are treated with fairness, respect, and dignity, and where decisions are grounded in the law and guided by experience. I am now running for re-election for another four-year term.
District Courts impact people’s lives in real and immediate ways. From traffic infractions to criminal cases involving alcohol, drugs, and domestic violence, to civil disputes such as auto accidents and small claims — these are not insignificant matters to the individuals involved. Each case deserves careful attention, sound judgment, and a judge who understands both the law and the human realities behind it.

Throughout my time on the bench, I have approached this role with a commitment to fairness, thoughtful decision making, and a willingness to apply practical, problem-solving approaches within the rule of law. The public deserves judges who are not only knowledgeable and experienced, but also diligent, respectful, and deeply committed to justice.

Before taking the bench, I spent 20 years representing clients across five counties and more than twenty courts, trying over 200 cases to verdict. That experience continues to inform my work as a judge every day, bringing a deep understanding of the courtroom, the law, and the people who come before it.

My commitment to Whatcom County extends beyond the courtroom. My wife, Janise, and I have built our life here raising our family, running a small business, and investing our time and energy in the many non-profit organizations that make this a great place to live.

It is an honor to serve this community, and I would be grateful for the opportunity to continue serving as your District Court Judge.
